New York Daily News City Editor Joins CUNY

Jere Hester, the New York Daily News' city editor, is leaving the newspaper to join the faculty of the new Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York. Hester will become the director of the NYC Community News Service, which offers stories from students to local papers, TV, radio and the Net for free. Hester has been at the daily for 14 years, beginning as a reporter and then rising through the ranks. Former BusinessWeek editor in chief Steve Shepard heads the CUNY program.
