Columbia Pictures and Major League Baseball Properties late Thursday dropped a controversial plan to place logos for Columbia's new "Spider-Man 2" movie on bases of major league baseball games. The
decision follows an outcry from fans and baseball purists who said the deal violated league rules and tarnished the sport. Columbia President of Worldwide Marketing Geoffrey Ammer said the bases were
"only one element of a much larger family event" and that the studio would still move ahead with its "Spider-Man 2" weekend promotion in conjunction with the June 11-13 home games of 15 MLB teams.
