AKQA took top honors for work on behalf of shop clients like Coke, Diageo's Johnnie Walker brand, Visa, McDonald's, and Microsoft. The independent shop is attracting a lot of attention these days, so much so that it's now shopping itself around, with some reports saying it could draw as much as $150 million.
Digitas--which Publicis Groupe just agreed to purchase for $1.3 billion--won the Silver. Universal McCann took top honors for excellence in media buying and planning. RPA Interactive took the prize for best creative for its simple yet bold strategies for clients like Honda. R/GA won for best Web site design and development, while Reprise Media won for best search agency.
MediaPost's MEDIA magazine and Marketing Daily also today announced their winners of the year. Media magazine named Starcom Media Agency of the Year. Other winners were Crispin Porter + Bogusky(Media Department of the Year, Initiative Innovations & Entertainment (Media Boutique of the Year), GroupM (Media Agency Holding Company of the Year) and Toyota (Media Client of the Year).
Apple Computer was named Marketer of the Year by Marketing Daily. Other winners were Toyota (Automotive Marketer of the Year, (Unilever's Dove (Consumer Packaged Goods Marketer of the Year, Bank of America Financial Services Marketer of the Year, McDonald's (Restaurant Marketer of the Year) and Target (Retail Marketer of the Year).
OMMA's awards will be bestowed in a ceremony in New York on the evening of Jan. 17. MEDIA's and Marketing Daily's awards ceremony will take place in New York on the evening of Jan. 23.
