IMG Media has purchased
Tennis Week magazine and its Web site TennisWeek.com. Terms of the deal, which quietly closed late last month, were not disclosed.
IMG Media, a unit of
sports management company IMG, is mainly known for producing and distributing videos, including sports programs, documentaries and other entertainment shows.
More recently, however, IMG moved into
publishing with IMG Media. Currently, the unit publishes The Daily, the Daily MINI, and the online site fashionweekdaily.com--all focused on the fashion world.
Brandusa Niro, editor in
chief and publications director for IMG's publications division, will oversee editorial content at Tennis Week.
Tennisweek.com currently covers the major tennis tournaments, including the
Grand Slams, the ATP and WTA Tours. IMG's plans for the Web site include adding daily video, photos, and a newswire for registered users; the company also intends to expand features and
behind-the-scenes interviews, a spokeswoman said.
Last year, IMG Media partnered with Sprint
to provide footage for its new mobile sports and entertainment network, "Power View." That network kicked off with seven shows covering the NFL, entertainment news and gossip and New York's Fashion
Week, among other topics.
