AOL, Intellext Launch Tool For Students

  • January 25, 2007
AOL and Intellext Inc., maker of the Watson search engine, are joining forces to offer a free customized version of Watson dubbed AOL@School Desktop Sidebar for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Watson retrieves information from the Internet and electronic sources related to what someone is working on. The Sidebar focuses on content chosen by education experts at 48,000 sites to provide high-quality educational information. For a student working on a paper on Abraham Lincoln, for instance, the Sidebar would point to a site with the full text of his speeches and another with Civil War photos. The education site is ad-free. AOL@School is an online education portal used in 500,000 computers in school libraries and classrooms, and available for use on home computers.
