America Online Files Federal Spam Suit

America Online filed a $1.6 million federal spam lawsuit last week alleging that Connor Miller Software, a Florida computer company, helped advertisers in Thailand distribute at least 35 million emails offering low mortgage rates. The messages generated 1.5 million complaints from members, according to AOL. The suit alleged that Connor Miller ran email servers for the Thailand spammers and wrote programming codes for the bulk email program. A defendant named in the suit said that Connor Miller didn't do anything wrong, and that the messages were sent to a legally purchased email list.
