Consumers would use long-range WiMAX wireless broadband mostly to respond to e-mail, read and watch "live" online news, enjoy mobile TV and download the latest music, according to a CENTRIS survey of
601 consumers commissioned by Motorola, one of the companies that plans to sell WiMAX-enabled handhelds.
In the survey: " 49% would likely use WiMAX to read or respond to e-mail; "
31% to read or view "live," real-time online media; " 28% for mobile entertainment, such as interactive, on demand and mobile TV; " 28% to download and listen to music.
Also, the
survey found that 57% of Internet users think it's important that wireless broadband service be available wherever they may be.
WiMAX promises to have the connection speeds of cable or DSL,
with the mobility and roaming of current cellular networks, according to Motorola.
