Yahoo will discontinue its Musicmatch services on August 31st, nearly three years after its $160 million acquisition of the privately held company that provided free Jukebox music player/storage
software as well as subscription-based Internet-delivered music.
Yahoo has been merging features of the Musicmatch Jukebox into its own Yahoo Music Jukebox over the past couple of years, and
suggested that Musicmatch customers migrate free to the Yahoo Music Jukebox before the August 31st deadline.
In an email sent to Musicmatch customers this weekend, Yahoo pointed out that its
2-million song catalog is twice as large as Musicmatch's soon-to-be-discontinued service. A migration page on the Web also noted that the
Yahoo Jukebox has "new features for sharing music, connecting with others with similar music tastes, and playlisting."
