South Korea's Internet penetration is higher than any other Asia-Pacific country, with 65% of people ages 15 and up--or 26.3 million people--using the Web in May, according to comScore's first-ever
comprehensive review of Internet usage in 10 Asia-Pacific countries. South Korea was followed by Australia (62%), New Zealand (60%) and Hong Kong (59%).
Property-wise,
comScore reported that Yahoo Sites led with the most monthly unique users across the Asia-Pacific region. Yahoo also led in six individual countries, with Microsoft Sites tops in three countries, and
South Korea's own search giant NHN number one in that market.
Overall, comScore said that 10% of the Asia-Pacific population--or 284 million people--used the Internet during May. The
average person visited 13.8 days a month, and spent 20.2 hours viewing 2,172 pages--below the global averages of 17.1 days 25.2 hours, and 2,519 pages. However, South Koreans topped the world
averages--with scores of 17.4 days, 31.2 hours and 4.546 pages.
India had the lowest Internet usage penetration--just 3% of the population. China's penetration was only 9%, but in terms
of raw numbers, that translated into Asia-Pacific's largest Internet user base--91.5 million people.
