Newsweek, The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly took home the biggest prizes for this year’s National Magazine Awards, announced Wednesday by the American Society of Magazine Editors. Newsweek won
the top award for general excellence in the 2 million-plus circulation category based on its Sept. 11 coverage. The New Yorker received citations for fiction, profile writing and essays. The Atlantic
also took home three awards for reporting, public interest and feature writing. In addition to Newsweek, general excellence awards were also won by Entertainment Weekly (one to two million circ) Vibe
(500,000 to one million) National Geographic Adventure (200,000 to 500,000) and Print for General Excellence (under 200,000).
