For the first time, MPA and ASME will present their individual lifetime achievement awards jointly at a black-tie gala dinner on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City.
The Henry Johnson Fisher Award will be presented to Edward Lewis, Chairman & CEO, Essence Communications Partners, by Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA). Arthur Cooper, Editor-in-Chief, GQ, will be
inducted into the Magazine Editors’ Hall of Fame by Steven Florio, President & CEO, Condé Nast Publications Inc. Lewis will receive an honorarium of $10,000 from Popular Science magazine’s parent
company, Time4 Media, a division of Time Inc. Lewis will donate the amount to The Ed and Carolyn Lewis Scholarships at the University of New Mexico, where Mr. Lewis is an alumni. Cooper, the recipient
of the Magazine Editors' Hall of Fame Award, will receive an honorarium of $10,000 from Quad/Graphics, the largest privately-held printing company in the world, with more than 1,000 magazine, catalog,
retail insert and direct mail clients. The honorarium will be donated annually in memory of Quad/Graphics Founder, Harry V. Quadracci. Cooper, who will donate the money to the Committee to Protect
Journalists, will also receive an engraved crystal prism commemorating his induction into the Hall of Fame.
