Virgin Radio Takes Top Spot

MeasureCast, Inc. has announced that Virgin Radio streamed more hours - 296,256 - than any other single radio station measured by MeasureCast during the week of March 4, 2002. Clear Channel Worldwides' JazzFM, which had held the top spot for previous 3 weeks, ranked second.

For the second week in a row, Clear Channel Worldwide streamed more hours than any other Internet Radio network measured by MeasureCast. The network's 198 stations streamed a total of 1,031,402 hours of content during the week. The Warp Radio group of on-line AM and FM stations took over second spot in the weekly network rankings by streaming 624,781 hours. (See the complete Top 10 network ranking at www.measurecast.com)

Web Radio Listening Index Dips 1.0%

The MeasureCast Internet Radio Listening Index for the week of Mar 4 decreased 1.0% to 525. The total time spent listening to streaming radio stations measured by MeasureCast has increased 425% since January 2001, and 58% since January 6, 2002. Thirteen stations in the MeasureCast Top 25T ranking saw an increase in their total number of hours streamed, and 15 stations attracted a larger audience.

Demographic Highlights

Streaming consumption continues to remain a work hour phenomenon, with 78% of all listening occurred during traditional work hours - 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific, and only 11% of the week's Internet radio listening taking place over the weekend. The peak listening day was Tuesday, March 5, with 19% of all listening occurring this day.

MeasureCast says that 87.5% of Internet radio listeners were between the ages of 18 and 54, with the largest group (25-34) accounting for 29%. Males continued to listen in larger numbers than females, accounting for 69% of the audience during the week.

Countries with the largest number of Internet radio listeners listening to stations measured by MeasureCast included Canada, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
