Carole Leigh Hutton is out as executive editor of the
San Jose Mercury News. She is being replaced by David J. Butler, the top news executive for MediaNews, the parent company. Butler will
retain his position as vice president for news of Denver-based MediaNews Group and add responsibilities for its Bay Area properties.
