CBS Getting Real(ity) In A Big Way

CBS is going for reality in a big way as it readies the launch of three series in the genre. New programs include "Game Show in My Head," a biweekly celebrity talent contest called "Secret Talents of the Stars" and "America's Top Dog." The trio represent the Tiffany Network's first unscripted series orders since the writers strike started. Still, even though CBS reality chief Ghen Maynard and his counterparts at rival nets had already been aggressively developing reality shows before the strike, they had not until recently rushed to order new ones.

"Game Show" is based on a British format and was first picked up as a pilot by CBS last spring before Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg's Katalyst production house reached a TV deal with CBS that gives it and the CW Network first crack at their work. The program is a hidden-camera game show where contestants go about their daily business until a host tells them to perform outrageous -- often embarrassing -- public tasks in exchange for a cash prize.

In "Secret Talents," celebrities compete in things like singing, dancing, magic or acrobatics in front of a panel of judges, while "Top Dog" has a group of dogs and their owners living together and snarling over a cash prize.
