My Yellow Door Stop

Roommate 1: "We got a new Yellow Book."
Roommate 2: "What are we going to do with that??"
Roommate 3: "Oh I need a new door stop!"

I laughed at the statement, but thought, has technology gotten the best of us? I must admit I can not recall the last time I've used a Yellow Book let alone an actual dictionary. Who needs to when you've got dictionary.com and yellowpages.com? I find it so much easier to jump on the computer, type a name, click a few buttons, and have your answer appear before your eyes. Gone are the days of searching for the big bulky book and thumbing through the pages. But has it become too much?

Have we become addicted to our computers? If an employer, parent, or friend asked me to look up a name for them, my instinct is to locate my computer. If someone asks me to send a letter, I turn to my computer. Before I call someone, I email them. Research facilities and schools have studied this and came up with thought provoking information. I'm not sure I agree with them on all accounts, but it does have me thinking.

For now, however, I think I'll take the Yellow Pages away from my roommate's door and try using "stone-aged" technology to accomplish a few tasks.

When people go to the yellow pages, they have a need and are ready to buy something. In this case, they need a contractor to fixed a door!). Although not currently in fashion, the yellow book is the single best method to connect 'ready to transact' consumers with local businesses.
