24/7 Contact

In August, I moved from my hometown of Wichita, KS, to attend Graduate School in Indiana. Five days before I left, my older brother got married. This may seem like no big deal to most, but to my small family of four, it was the beginning of a big change. In fact, nothing this big had ever happened before.

Growing up with one sibling sounds ideal to a lot of my friends with big families, but in mine, it was nothing less than orderly. With only two kids to 'keep up with' my parents were always able to find a way to be there for us both, all the time.

But now, communication is limited to texting with my dad, emails to my mom and short phone conversations with my brother. If only there was another way....

Families ranging from small to five generations removed are beginning to seek out new ways to keep up with each other. With the ease of websites and blogging, families are now able to share stories, photos, successes and new births all in one place.. the internet.

With the Internet being available 24/7, families are now able to access each other at anytime. This is ideal for the late-night college student studying to be able to 'talk' with her mom about the day... which in turn is great for the mom who is up before the sun to 'hear' from her daughter.

As a new blogger myself, I shared this idea with my dad. Fortunately, I come from a pretty tech-savvy family .... but I chuckled when my dad replied to my idea, "just as soon as I got this email thing down, now there is this blogging!" ....
