Newspapers have been publishing special weekly sections for decades and their success has not gone unnoticed by their Internet counterparts. Several newspaper publishers have launched specialized
online newsletter, such as automotive, health, shopping and advertising special publications, and now pure-play online publishers are following suit.
Yahoo! News yesterday announced the launch of
"Tech Tuesday," a new weekly section anchored with special feature packages from respected technology news leaders Ziff Davis Media and IDG's PC World.
According to Chris McGill, general manager,
Yahoo! News and Information, the major attraction for advertisers is that Yahoo and News have a huge audience of tech savvy users who can be reached through exclusive sponsorship. Each sponsorship is
one week and the content is available in the site's archives for a year. AT&T Wireless is the first such sponsor.
Each week will feature a different technology topic -- providing 52 weeks of
technology feature packages specifically tailored for the tech-interested audience.
The Tech Tuesday section will also provide content from valued technology media such as TechTarget and
SiliconValley.com through new content distribution agreements. In addition to this wealth of new and specialized content, Tech Tuesday also includes breaking technology news, features and analysis
from current Yahoo! News providers such as TechWeb, Mac Central, Newsfactor, USA TODAY, Agence France Presse (AFP), The Associated Press and Reuters.
Tech Tuesday also allows marketers to deliver
messages to build brand awareness and merchandise products and services among a large concentration of technology enthusiasts. The format of Tech Tuesday offers marketers a combination of contextual
relevance, exclusive sponsorships and rich media advertising technology.
As Tech Tuesday was created specifically for Yahoo!'s millions of technology consumers, the weekly section will also
integrate other areas of the Yahoo! Network, such as Yahoo! Shopping's "Tech Center" and Yahoo! Games.
