When I sold my company to Nielsen in 1999, one of our our main products, and the product that most interested Nielsen, was something we called "VRPs" or Volume Rating Points. It was purchase behavior
rating points, the ability to target brand buyers, not just viewers.
Nielsen shelved the product - I think partly because they were afraid it would impact their ratings "golden goose." So here we
are, almost 10 years later! I've heard that in reaction to the AMC work Nielsen has brushed the dust off my old product and that they are going to call it "BRPs" or Brand Rating Points. Better early
than never, right?
