Pepsi Play for a Billion Hits Two Million Registrants

  • June 11, 2003
In just over one month of activity, Pepsi's Play for a Billion promotional site, www.billionsweeps.com, enlisted its two-millionth registrant on Wednesday. The site, developed and managed by Yahoo!, will be active until August 15. "Judging by the overwhelming number of registrants, this program is shaping up to be our most successful Internet-based promotion ever," said John Vail, director of digital media and marketing for Pepsi-Cola North America. "Maybe we shouldn't be surprised by that - after all, we're offering a chance to win a billion dollars." Consumers log on to the site and enter codes found on specially marked Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Sierra Mist products or mail your codes to the sweepstakes entry address on the package. One-thousand consumers will be randomly selected throughout the summer and offered a trip to appear on a live television broadcast on The WB in September. On the show, hosted by Drew Carey, the 1,000 sweepstakes winners will play a game of chance followed by a nail-biting elimination process to determine the $1 million prizewinner. The $1 million winner will then have a chance to win $1 billion without forfeiting the $1 million prize.
