universe estimates released this week by Nielsen Media Research. Since 1996, commercial-free Disney Channel has grown by 344%, representing a gain of 62.1 million subscribing homes. Over the past six
years, Disney Channel has averaged an impressive 35% year-to-year subscriber gain. Disney Channel launched in 1983 as a premium cable service with approximately 600,000 subscribers.
