Hitwise: CNN Most-Visited TV Network Site On Election Day, MSNBC Has Highest Traffic In 12-Year History

CNN.com was the most-visited TV network Web site on Nov. 4, receiving .61% of all U.S Internet visits, according to Hitwise.

CNN.com's visits increased 146% on Tuesday (11/4/08) versus Monday (11/3/08). MSNBC.com was the second-most-visited TV network Web site, receiving .40% of U.S. Internet visits and seeing 122% increase in traffic.

MSNBC reported its highest traffic day in its 12-year history for both page views and unique visitors, with nearly 250 million page views and over 20 million unique visitors. The spike in page views was more than twice the traffic of Election Eay 2004, and more than four times the traffic of the 2006 mid-term election.

Yahoo News was the most visited Web site overall when included among the News and Political websites that were combined together, reports Hitwise. U.S. visits to Yahoo News increased 55% on Election Day, and Google News increased 58%.

MySpace and Facebook both saw a 6% increases in traffic on Election Day versus the day before the election. Twitter Election's 2008 visits increased 1100%, and Twitter.com's traffic increased by 43% on Election Day, per Hitwise.

Barack Obama's Web site received a 6% increase in U.S. visits on Tuesday, while the visits to John McCain's Web site dropped 18%.--Tanya Irwin
