Marketers may not look forward to some of the changes coming to a Washington controlled by Democrats. "Lobbyists, fed-watchers and CEOs say that they are already worrying about heightened
scrutiny and, perhaps, new rules governing what they do," Jim Edwards writes.
Among the issues that will be front and center:
•Eliminating tax deductions
for advertising;
•New legislation protecting Internet privacy and banning such practices as behavioral targeting;
•A end to direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical
advertising;
•Enhanced authority for the Federal Trade Commission;
•A ban on food ads targeting kids.
