I think [Wynne Tyree] makes some really good points -- kids are still kids, despite all their tween options. I have a beef with any particular product or class of products -- I think it's a parent's
ultimate responsibility to determine what's appropriate for their child and what's not.
But I have noticed that the new media entertainment does not replace a child's natural desire to play with
toys. When my 8-year-old son plays on his computer, he still wants time to build with his Lego blocks and other real-world toys. One doesn't replace the other; but having more choices makes our time
more scarce, so we have to budget our time more carefully.
