And the Struggle Continues...

HDCP in New Apple Laptops

I wonder how long it will be before this ridiculous dance comes to an end.  It's been coming to a head for the past decade, and it's been intensifying.  My generation utilizes technology in almost every facet of our lives.  When we legally buy a piece of media, we expect to be able to play it on whatever equipment we like, when we like.  Anything less is unacceptable.

What media companies seem to not understand is that they cannot prevent this.  Every protection scheme ever devised has been obliterated in short order.  The amateur programmers who don't like being told when, where, and how they can play their media will always find a workaround.  Frankly, their combined resources are greater than any media corporation could ever afford to bring to bear in writing DRM in the first place.

Worse still, media corporations that introduce excessive DRM don't win any pity points.  The more they pull this sort of stuff, the more the public sees them negatively.  Something has to give - and it looks like the anti-DRM crowd is at the advantage.
