Among the 48.2 million Black consumers in the United States is a significant portion of not only sports fans, but “superfans” who are the heaviest viewers of televised sports events, according to a report on Black consumers by researcher Nielsen.

It found that 9% of Black superfans are regular viewers of sports commentary, compared with 7% of the total population of superfans and only 2% of the general population of U.S. consumers. This propensity to watch commentary, including on traditional linear television and streaming, is significant for brands that seek to reach Black consumers.
