Dutch Bros Coffee Adds A Little Shimmer For The New Year

Nothing says New Year’s like shimmering, mirrored and glitter-filled disco balls, party hats, streamers and glitter bombs. Why should beverages be exempt from a little sparkle? Now coffee chain Dutch Bros is ringing in the new year with their own line of “Shine”-enhanced beverages.

Beginning today, customers can add a bit of shimmer to their Dutch Bros drink with a shot of “Shine,” which, according to a release, “adds a unique, swirling luster that makes any iced drink sparkle.”

Now a staple at many weddings and other festive events, the shot turns whatever drink it is added to into a faux glittering beverage, and works best when shaken in cold beverages. Shine can be added to any Dutch Bros Rebel energy drink, tea, lemonade, soda or cold brew.

"When we first released Shine for a limited time in 2018, our customers were stoked and gave it so much love," said Charles Swindler, Dutch Bros senior vice president of field engagement in a release. "Since then, we've always wanted to bring back Shine and thought this was the perfect time."

A few Shine-enhanced recommendations from Dutch Bros includes Midnight Rebel energy drink with Shine, Vanilla Cold Brew with Shine and Tropical Green Tea with Shine.

No worries about the health safety of the additive’s ingredients, as according to the FDA, “Common ingredients in edible glitter or dust include sugar, acacia (gum arabic), maltodextrin, cornstarch, and color additives specifically approved for food use, including mica-based pearlescent pigments and FD&C colors such as FD&C Blue No. 1.”

The Shine shot is available at Dutch Bros through Jan. 14. The drive-thru-only coffee chain, based in Grants Pass, Oregon, now has more than 800 locations in 16 states.
