• Yahoo Names New CFO
    Yahoo on Tuesday announced Ken Goldman as its new chief financial officer, replacing Tim Morse. Goldman, who has been CFO of threat management technology company Fortinet since 2007, will take start at Yahoo on Oct. 22. Prior to Fortinet, he was CFO of Siebel Systems for six years until the company’s acquisition by Oracle Crop. in 2006. Morse, who served as interim CEO at Yahoo from Sept. 2011 until January 2012 following the firing of Carol Bartz, had been CFO since June 2009.  He will leave the company later this fall.     Atlantic Media Company today launched Quartz, its new publication geared primarily to tablets mobile phones and aimed at the international business class. Built with HTML5, the mobile Web app doesn’t require download but can be accessed at qz.com across devices and desktop computers. First announced in June, the slick-looking business site is also available via Flipboard and features Boeing, Cadillac, Chevron and Credit Suisse as launch sponsors.     ABC's had some good and bad news concerning the "Emmys". The three-hour “The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards” was down 10% to a Nielsen preliminary 3.8 rating/9 share down from a 4.2 rating of a year ago. The good news was that ABC's total viewer total gained over Fox's results -- 13.2 million to 12.4 million. The Emmys big problem in recent years -- going against NBC's "Sunday Night Football".   • Carrier Billing On Facebook Via Bango Goes Live
    Bango said on Monday that its integration with Facebook to power mobile Web carrier billion is now live in the U.S., U.K. and Germany, with other countries to follow later this year. Bango first announced the partnership back in February, with the goal of streamlining mobile payments for Facebook mobile users.“This enables Facebook's mobile web users to easily purchase digital content without the use of premium SMS messages or the limitations of credit cards,” Bango said in announcing the service today.     Apple today announced iPhone 5 sales reached a new opening weekend record of more than 5 million handsets including preorders. The company also said more than 100 million iOS devices have been updated to iOS 6 since the new version of the platform was released last week. Apple last week said it sold more than 2 million iPhones during the device’s first 24 hours of availability.   • Omnicom Sued For Wrongful Termination, Charged With Violating Sarbanes-Oxley
    Veteran sports media executive Ray Katz has sued Omnicom, its OMD and Optimum Sports subsidiaries and the former CFO of those units, Mark Amabile, for discrimination, wrongful termination and fraud in connection with his being laid off from his post as managing director at Optimum Sports in late 2009. Katz is seeking a minimum of $3 million plus attorney's fees and other costs, according to court papers filed in New York State Supreme Court earlier this month.     The Boston Globe will partner with MIT’s Center for Civic Media to develop new ideas for the newspaper’s Boston.com and BostonGlobe.com sites.
