• Facebook Goes After "Designbook"
    Facebook is going after "Designbook" -- an online meeting place for entrepreneurs and investors -- for copyright infringement. While the social giant hasn’t commented publically on the matter, ars technical notes, “Facebook has asserted rights to both the prefix ‘face’ and the suffix ‘book’ in the social networking space.” 
  • Snapchat Hires New Head Of Original Content
    Snapchat just brought on Sean Mills as Head of Original content. “Prior to joining Snapchat, Mills was president of video startup NowThis, where he grew the company's views from 150,000 to more than 60 million per month,” Business Insider reports. “Under Mills, Snapchat will grow its original video content division and build up the company's New York presence.”

    Fortune considers how Facebook quadrupled its video views in just the past year, and what it means for the broader ad ecosystem. “It’s happening because the social network’s engineers, quietly and with little fanfare, have retooled Facebook’s interface to make video easier than ever to watch and share,” it writes. “These may sound like minor technical distinctions, but tiny changes make a huge difference when you’ve got 1.4 billion monthly active users.” 
  • Facebook Testing "Saved Replies" For Page Owners
    Facebook is testing “Saved Replies” a feature that lets business Page owners write, save and re-use canned messages to communicate with consumers. “The addition will save businesses time when handling incoming customer service inquires and responding to other customer feedback via the site,” TechCrunch reports. “Businesses are initially offered a couple of sample replies they can use out-of-the-box or customize … or they can simply create their own.” 
  • Medium Undergoing Major Changes
    Big changes are afoot at some of Medium’s more popular properties, including Matter, Backchannel, The Nib, and The Message. “Medium now wants to become more of a social network rather than a publishing platform,” Business Insider reports. “But this comes at a great cost to its full-time and freelance staff.” Medium is also reportedly shuttering Re:form, the design-focused site sponsored by BMW. 
  • Facebook Testing Email Encryption Feature
    With privacy and surveillance on the minds of many consumers, Facebook is testing an encryption feature. “You’ll be able to share a public encryption key in your profile, and set up encrypted notifications so that all the emails you receive from Facebook will be protected with encryption,” Gizmodo reports. “Facebook’s encryption work with OpenPGP, and it uses GNU Privacy Guard (GPG), a popular free implementation of PGP technology.”
