Mobile music revenue will hit $14.6 billion worldwide by 2013, according to a new forecast by Juniper Research.
The U.K.-based research firm Juniper found many of the key hurdles for
consumers have been significantly reduced, such as handset form factor, storage capacity, and reduced data costs. These factors, along with the major label's expansion into mobile, will drive mobile
music to new levels.
In that vein, Universal Music Group's Interscope Geffen A&M division Monday announced a deal with digital media platform Kyte to launch iPhone and iPod Touch applications
promoting IGA artists. The free apps feature video content, mobile advertising, and links for buying artist content and merchandise.
IGA acts include All American Rejects, Keri Hilson, Lady
Gaga, the Pussycat Dolls and Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. The label is the first to use new technology from Kyte powering digital media on iPhone and iPod apps.--Mark Walsh
