'Newsday' To Charge Online Readers

Online readers of Newsday are going to have to pay to read the newspaper. The move, by parent Cablevision, is one of the first large U.S. papers to reverse a trend toward free Web readership, notes Reuters. Newsday, which covers Long Island, New York, was bought by Cablevision in a $650 million deal last May. The buy resulted in a big 4Q loss for the cable company.
