Public TV WETA Cuts Staff, Loses Funding

Commercial and public broadcasters are equally hit in a dismal economy. Big public broadcaster WETA (Washington, D.C.) is cutting its workforce by 13% and cutting management salaries by the same amount. Fifteen people will be laid off, and 14 posts that are currently vacant will be eliminated, reports The Washington Post. WETA, which operates TV Channel 26 and radio station WETA (90.9 FM), said the economy had battered its funding sources. The cuts are expected to save $2.5 million.
