Chris Hughes, one of four Facebook
founders who left the social network in early 2007 to work on then-Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign, is joining consulting and advocacy ad firm GMMD as a strategic advisor.
As director
of online organizing for the Obama campaign, Hughes led a team that engaged millions of Americans through My.BarackObama.com, attracted five million "friends" on 15 social networking sites, and
convinced three million donors to contribute to the campaign.
GMMB was a lead agency for Obama for America, contributing to the strategy, message, advertising and media placement for the
successful presidential campaign. Hughes will provide GMMB clients with insight and digital strategies for a wide range of campaigns and causes.
"All of us who were involved in the Obama
campaign were simply amazed by what he accomplished," GMMB Partner Greg Pinelo said of Hughes.
With offices in Washington, Seattle, Los Angeles and London, GMMB clients have included the Save
Darfur Coalition, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Nations Foundation, UNICEF, the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Visa International.
GMMB has also provided media and strategic consulting services for many Democratic senators, members of the House of Representatives and governors.
Hughes, along with Harvard roommates Mark
Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz, created Facebook in 2004.
