Regional wireless company Cricket is touting its entry into the Windy City with a promotion in which people can make calls from--according to the company, anyway--the world's largest cell phone.
The phone, situated in the city's Pioneer Court, is a 15-foot replica of a Samsung Messenger phone.
"Bringing the world's largest working cell phone to one of the world's greatest
cities is an exciting way for us to celebrate offering Cricket service in Chicago," said John Noelker, Midwest regional vice president for Cricket, in a statement. "Providing free, unlimited calls on
the world's largest working cell phone is another way Cricket is delivering unmatched value to the people of this great city."
The company plans to have the phone certified as the world's biggest
by Guinness World Records. In addition to the phone, the display also offers other activities, such as a texting challenge and a video booth demonstrating Cricket and Samsung mobile
products.--Aaron Baar
