Yahoo confirmed Wednesday that it has shut down its FareChase site for travel bargains as part of the wider effort to streamline its structure under new CEO Carol Bartz.
Acquired in
2004 and launched two years later, FareChase allowed users to compare pricing on flights, hotels, cars and travel packages. Anyone visiting the site is now redirected to Yahoo Travel.
"Yahoo
continues to align resources to focus on core strategic priorities and deliver superior user experiences on the Internet. Discontinuing FareChase will allow Yahoo to focus our efforts on other key
features for Yahoo Travel, such as Yahoo Travel Guides and Yahoo Trip Planner," the company said in a statement.
In public comments earlier this month, Bartz said nearly all Yahoo properties are
under review to help the company run more tightly and weed out underperforming assets.--Mark Wlash
