Court Ends Philip Morris Appeal Of $79.5M Award

In a one-sentence order, the U.S. Supreme Court left in place a ruling by the Oregon Supreme Court in favor of Mayola Williams, who sued Philip Morris USA after her husband died of lung cancer. The state court has repeatedly upheld a verdict finding PM accountable for misleading people into thinking cigarettes were not dangerous or addictive.
