Twitter Partners Isn't A Real Twitter Partner

It turns out that Wednesday's New Media Age story about Twitter backing its first advertising partner in the UK was false; yesterday, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone wrote a blog post stating that it has no official business arrangement with Twitter Partners. "The name, branding, and suggestion that Twitter has some kind of equity partnership or an agreement of any kind in place is misleading and wrong," he wrote. Apparently, the two sides are now working to clear up the confusion; VentureBeat's MG Siegler suggests this could include a name change for Twitter Partners, among other things.

Because Twitter doesn't yet have its own revenue source, companies like Twitter Partners are starting to build their own business models on top of the microblogging service. Some, like Federated Media's ExecTweets, actually have a monetary agreement in place with Twitter; most do not. Until Twitter has its own business model, Siegler says we should be wary of any companies claiming to be official partners of Twitter.
