At tonight's welcome reception for the Search Insider Summit, I was pleased to see a good mix of new and familiar faces. The beauty of this event truly is the intimacy and the networking was in full
effect right off the bat.
There was one interaction that stood out for me, though. As I was catching up with fellow Search Insider columnist, Gord Hotchkiss, a loyal reader came up and told
him how big a fan she was of his and how awestruck she was in the presence of her hero. Now, of course, who doesn't feel that way about Gord, but it made me think of something Gord himself
said at the last summit... "Everyone's an insider here."
That couldn't be more true. The 100-ish folks that have gathered here for 3 days of sun and search are all in the top 5% of people in
the world when it comes to SEM knowledge. (No offense gang, but just being in the search space for a few months puts you in that category given how niche a discipline SEM is in the context of all
professions.)
So, yes, while Gord does walk on water when it comes to the psychology of search, at SIS, everyone's an insider. Whether it's during a panel, breakout, or one of the
afternoon/evening "networking" sessions, don't be afraid to jump in and go deep!
