A federal bankruptcy judge OK's the
Star Tribune's reorganization plan, per the Minneapolis newspaper, to exit bankruptcy on or about Sept. 28. The nation's 14th-largest daily newspaper will
emerge with new owners, lower costs and reduced debt. Separately, the
San Francisco Chronicle laid off five editorial staffers, which brings the total to 11 jobs cut this month. Early cuts this
year eliminated 150 Newspaper Guild jobs from the troubled daily.
