According to a recent Gallup poll, less than half of Americans (45%) report a great deal or fair amount of confidence in the media to report the news fully, accurately and fairly. About 2 in 10
Americans (18%) have no confidence in the media, among the worst grades Gallup ever recorded. The survey, conducted Aug. 31-Sept. 2, 2009, also found more Americans following political news more
closely than in previous non-presidential election years. The current dive in confidence is on par with 2008's figures: a record-low 43%.
