Leaders of the Writers Guild of America East are upbeat assessment of about the guild's outlook, seeing better traction in new-media and organizing. WGA East has signed over 20 companies that produce
content for the Internet, including one with iLarious that generates apps for the iPhone.
The WGA East says it is on solid footing financially, following the severe market decline in
2008. The guild said negotiations will soon begin with CBS News and ABC News for new contracts. The ABC pact expires Jan. 31 and the CBS agreement runs out on April 1. Bargaining for a new contract
with public TV continues.
