Television makers are showing 3-D enabled TVs this week at the Consumer Electronics Show, but mass purchasing is a long way offf. The lack of 3-D programming combined with high prices may prevent a
public embrace for several years. In practical terms, it means the touted 3_D TVs "will fall short of the hype," Ingrid Chung, an analyst with Goldman Sachs Group.
The Consumer
Electronics Association estimates that 4.3 million 3-D TVs will be sold this year. 53% of adults surveyed online said they want to watch 3-D shows at home, and one in four plan on buying a 3-D set
within the next three years, according to CEA.
Discovery Communications, Sony Corp. and Imax Corp. announced a joint venture to develop a 3-D television network in the U.S. TV makers
including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics Inc. introduced products in Las Vegas this week that are capable of displaying 3-D programs.
