Valassis, a marketing services company, and Connective Media, announced that its Chairman and CEO, ALAN F. SCHULTZ, had been named to the board of directors of the American Advertising Federation.

CHARLIE RUTMAN, evp/managing director of Carat, New York, has been named president of Carat USA.

ALICE MCNEIL and ROBERT VOLTAGGIO have been promoted to Vice Presidents of National Sales Planning at Fox Family Worldwide, the sales group representing Fox Family Channel, Fox Kids, foxkids.com, FoxFamilyChannel.com, Fox Kids Magazine and Fox Family Radio Countdown. Both McNeil and Voltaggio had been Directors of National Sales Planning since 1999.

Engage, Inc. an interactive media and enterprise marketing software company, announced that MARK AILSWORTH, a former True North and FBCi executive, has been named Vice President of AdKnowledge.

ATTIK's co-founders, SIMON NEEDHAM and JAMES SOMMERVILLE, were recently presented with Ernst & Young's "Young Entrepreneur of the Year" award.

PAUL SILVERMAN has been named Director of Media Management at Pharmacia Corporation in Peapack, N.J. He had been Director of Media - Global Advertising Services at the Campbell Soup Company in Camden, N.J.

OWEN MCCUMBER has been promoted to Media Planner at JWT Technology Communications Group in San Jose. McCumber has been with the company for two years.

BOB IGIEL, president of broadcast for WPP Group's Media Edge, New York, will retire following the upfront TV buying period.

CHRIS HJELM has been named executive vice president of Broadband Network Services for Excite@Home. Most recently, Hjelm served as chairman, CEO and president of Zoho Corporation, an e-procurement solutions vendor that relies heavily on the reliability and stability of its network.

DAVID REESE, President of ACTV, Inc., has been named to the additional position of Chief Executive Officer.

BILL CHASSE, former senior executive of infoUSA, Inc., has joined Touchpoint, Inc. as Chief Executive Officer.

ROY RUSSELL has joined the Radio Shack's Circle R Group as Division Vice President. The Circle R Group is the advertising and marketing division for the company. Previously, Russell served as Director, Strategic Planning and Analysis for The Dial Corporation in Scottsdale, Arizona.

STEVEN N. BARLOW has been named Senior Publishing and Advertising Analyst of Prudential Securities Incorporated. Barlow comes to Prudential Securities from Credit Suisse First Boston where he covered the Publishing, Broadcasting and Printing industries.

JULIAN LOWIN has been named publisher of Red Herring magazine. He was last at Fast Company, where he served as publisher.

GAIL COLLINS, a columnist on The New York Times Op-Ed page, has been named editorial page editor, effective in August.

TIM BANSE has been named executive editor of Marine Business Journal and Southern Boating magazines. Banse served for many years as a contributing editor to Motor Boating magazine.

JOHN SCHUELER was named publisher of the Daily News of Los Angeles on Tuesday. He had been publisher and president of the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.

DON KIMENKER, formerly associate publisher of MacAddict magazine, has been promoted to the position of publisher of Imagine Media.

COLLEEN WYSE has been named publisher of Women's Wear Daily. She had been associate publisher of W magazine since February of last year.

MATT DIEBEL has been named editor of People.com. He spent the past two years as deputy editor of Time.com.

JOHN KING has signed a new three-year contract with CNN. He has been working as the network's senior White House correspondent.

JAKE TAUBER has resigned from his position as executive vice president of Game Show Network.

JOHN CANNON, president of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, died Friday morning, aged 74.

Longtime CBS radio executive MAURIE WEBSTER died last Wednesday at the age of 85.
