Active â€" This year’s winner Jamie Oliver

This year’s TED prize winner is being introduced by Meg Ryan, who’s been an active member of the TED community for a long time.

Jamie Oliver convinced the British government to spend $ 1 million to change the school lunch for breakfast. His next show will be changing the way America eats, starting with America’s unhealthiest town, Huntington in West Virginia.

Jamie says our children are now blessed with a shorter life expectancy than us, because of what we feed them, at home and in school. School lunch is run by accountants, not by food experts.

America is fat because we are living in the third generation of bad eating habits, meaning no one has learned how to cook themselves, and how to eat right. Labeling is a disgrace. And we are sure not teaching our kids about food.

Jamie says obesity has ripped the heart out of this country.

Reboot.

Reboot in the supermarkets with food ambassadors, make the big brands put food education at the center of their business and need to be committed to a proper labeling policy, commit fast food chains. Commit the schools to serving proper fresh foods.  Learn how to cook.

The movement is on its way, in Huntington, and in other places as well. Mrs. Obama. What we need to do is to enable this historic moment to last.

Jamie Oliver’s wish:

“I wish for everyone to help create a strong sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”
