Mercedes-Benz has launched a design division called "Mercedes-Benz Style" that it hopes will expand the brand's horizons, aesthetic and expertise to a wider arena of products, Barry
Silverstein reports. It's a formal extension of what the brand already has been doing, according to the company's head of design, Gorden Wagener.
"In the past, our
design team has already styled such products as watches and interiors, he says. "Mercedes-Benz design stands for innovation, trend-setting, enduring style."
Mercedes-Benz Style is currently working on the interior of a helicopter and the exterior of a luxury yacht, according to its announcement. Wagener says any product could be part
of the mix -- furniture, lifestyle products, industrial design -- as long as "both the product and the manufacturer match our exclusive design and brand standards."
