'Cathy' Comic Ends 34-Year Run

The comic strip "Cathy," which has chronicled the life of its namesake for more than 30 years, is ending, reports AP. Cathy Guisewite, the strip's creator, cites personal reasons for her decision, but called her work "the most astonishing form of therapy for 34 years." The comic has won several awards, including an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program in 1987, and at its height appeared in 1,400 papers. It now appears in about 700. "Cathy" was first published in 1976 by Kansas City-based Universal Press Syndicate, now Universal Uclick. The final "Cathy" strip, will run in newspapers on Sunday, Oct. 3.
