In an effort to onboard more users to its recently launched payments platform, X has announced that creators based in the U.S. must now go through X Money to receive payouts.
As of September 1, U.S. payouts for both the social media company’s Original Content Rewards program and creators’ subscription offerings “will be paid
through X Money,” the company stated in a recent post.
“You’ll have access to your payouts the moment they’re sent,” the post adds, referencing
a potential benefit over X’s previous payments processor, Stripe, which waited to make payouts to creators until the end of a billing cycle.
Now, instead of waiting two weeks for payments -- or until the $30 minimum payout threshold is reached --
creators will receive instant cash with no minimum.

While creators based outside of the U.S. will continue
receiving payments through Stripe, X is telling stateside creators to verify their phone number in the X Money app in order to get paid for their X posts, subscriptions and brand deals, essentially
forcing them to join X’s new stand-alone app.
Reminiscent of the 1999 online banking start-up X.com,
which became the global platform PayPal, X Money was initially expected to launch by the end of 2024 after X secured its first licenses to enable funds transfers in the app.
At the start of 2025, X announced a partnership with Visa, then became available
to Premium and Premium+ X subscribers based in the U.S.
The app is designed for users to pay their rent, send wire transfers, pay friends, and other transactions.
Through X Money, users will receive a bank card with 3% cashback, free ATM withdrawals, and instant payments held at the FDIC-insured Cross River Bank. To further incentivize the platform,
the company says paying to become a Premium user will boost their APY rate from 4% to 6%.
Alongside the recent launch of a stand-alone encrypted messaging app called X Chat, X Money aligns with X
owner Elon Musk’s vision of replicating China’s “WeChat” platform.
“If you're in China, you kind of live on WeChat,” Musk
has said in the past. “It does everything – sort of like Twitter, plus PayPal, plus a whole bunch of things, and all rolled into one, with a great interface. It's really an excellent app,
and we don't have anything like that outside of China.”
Furthermore, X plans to replace its Revenue Sharing program next week with The Original Content Rewards Program, which is designed
to incentivize creators to post original content on the platform.
