Wal-Mart Invests Further In Wireless

Through partnerships with top wireless phone carriers, Wal-Mart continues to expand its presence in the field. The retail giant is now introducing a cell phone plan that uses the chain's own branding, and runs on T-Mobile USA's network. According to the Associated Press, the move is "further demonstrating its clout in getting special deals from wireless carriers."

Unlimited calling and texting will cost $45 per month for the first line and $25 for each additional line for the family. The service is expected to be offered shortly in most Wal-Mart stores across the nation. Since last year, Wal-Mart has been the exclusive seller of the Straight Talk pre-paid service, which runs on the Verizon Wireless network. Wal-Mart is also testing a pre-paid service from Sprint Nextel Corp. dubbed Common Cents.
