Former cable and wireless communications lobbyist Tom Wheeler is heading an FCC Technology Advisory Committee on wireless broadband, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced. Wheeler is a managing
director of Core Capital Partners, a Washington-based venture capital firm with some $350 million under management.
As a member of the Obama transition team, Wheeler worked with
broadcasters on the DTV conversion and was involved in the decision to delay the final analog TV shut down from March to June. The FCC is looking to recover 300 MHz (or an estimated $120 billion
worth) for mobile broadband by 2014 as part of an overall National Broadband Plan
Wheeler has been a fixture in communications policy circles in the capital since 1979, when he took over as
president of the National Cable Television Association.
