McDonald's Skinner: We Are Part Of The Obesity Solution

Obesity, rising prices, healthcare reform and increasing governmental regulations can't stop McDonald's "recession resistant" strategy of providing great-tasting food at a great value at the speed of ... well, at the speed of McDonald's, chairman and CEO Jim Skinner tells Maria Bartiromo.

"We've stuck to our game plan, which is focusing on customers and restaurants and doing a better job every day," he says. "It's paid dividends," says Skinner. He also uses the phrase "everyday affordability" a lot.

As far as obesity goes, Skinner maintains that McDonald's has been part of the solution by creating choices and variety such as apples and 1% milk in Happy Meals menus, salads, grilled chicken and entrees that provide a nutritionally balanced meal.

"It's not my job to get up in the morning and prescribe to people what they eat, but I should give them a choice that makes them feel good about their decision and, more importantly, fits into the appropriate nutritional guidelines for them," Skinner says.
