CBS To Debut New Early Show on Monday

  • October 15, 2002
After years of disappointments, CBS is bringing back a familiar face for its morning show and trying a new format for its “Early Show.” Harry Smith, the once and future host of CBS’ morning program, will be joined by incumbent news anchor Julie Chen and two new people, former NBC Sports correspondent Hannah Storm and local TV personality Rene Syler. The program will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28. The network said the new “Early Show” will offer a different type of program, with a less rigid structure with the four anchors reporting the top stories and interviews and features. “First and foremost, the new ‘Early Show’ is a news program, so we’ll continue to provide viewers with the stories and issues of the day, as well as local weather and news. But our anchors will also give viewers a more spontaneous broadcast with four distinct personalities adding their own interests to the mix. The result will be a lively, unconventional and engaging program,” said CBS News President Andrew Heyward.
